Georgia football found out on Sunday who their College Football Playoff semifinal opponent will be, and today it’s transfer portal Monday. What a new world that college football lives in — playoffs, NILs, and the transfer portal. What a time to be a fan.

Despite the regular football season being over, the news hasn’t slowed down until after the playoffs.

The Dawgs obviously will take on the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Peach Bowl on New Year’s Eve, but before we can get there, recruiting holds a firm grasp on the college football world. Recruiting isn’t just about high school kids anymore, but also those in the portal.

Head coach Kirby Smart spoke with the media about this upcoming matchup with Ohio State, and the bonuses for the coaching staff have gone public. It may be a Monday, but the news surrounding the Dawgs is plentiful.

Georgia football news from Monday featuring the transfer portal and Kirby Smart nuggets.

So how will Georgia handle the portal this year? The Dawgs didn’t take a single player out of the portal last year, but they are no stranger to it. Georgia has gotten players out of the transfer portal before, but how will they do it this year? The Dawgs will be very strategic about it because plenty of high school recruits are on their radar.

On Monday, the transfer portal opened, and while there were record-breaking numbers of players adding their names, Georgia doesn’t have one. That number could change, but for now, that’s a huge testament to the culture that the Dawgs have.

There are some players the Dawgs have eyes on in the portal, but it’ll depend on who the Dawgs finish within its 2023 recruiting class. However, Georgia fans should be happy with their program because it shows why Smart is staying successful. The Dawgs lost players last year to the portal, but Georgia had plenty of depth to replace them. It’s a cycle the Dawgs are winning, and that’s a huge win in today’s college football world.

Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart addresses the upcoming Ohio State matchup.

Smart addressed the media alongside Ohio State head coach Ryan Day on Sunday after the College Football Playoff committee announced the matchups for two semifinal games. The Dawgs and the Buckeyes will be in Atlanta for the Peach Bowl.

In the press conference, both head coaches addressed various questions about each team and the matchup.

One of the things that stood out in Smart’s opening statement is that he mentioned watching the best teams in the offseason and included Ohio State in that equation. That compliment shows what kind of coach Smart is and how the staff challenges themselves to study all types of football, not just SEC opponents.

Georgia and Ohio State recruit a lot of the same guys, so Smart made sure to compliment those guys too. You can tell he respects the Ohio State program. Both coaches addressed the transfer portal and how both programs try and build the culture of keeping kids on the team. They are focused on their teams and making sure they succeed.

The coaches were both respectful, and it seemed they will be ready for an absolute battle on New Year’s Eve.

Georgia football will have a wild December with recruiting, the transfer portal, and Peach Bowl news. The Dawgs are on track for another memorable ending for the 2023 recruiting class and 2022 football season.
