Georgia football continues to have a massive week on the news front as the Dawgs continue to rack in awards and have other news surrounding their program. This week is far from over in terms of news stuff, but let’s catch you up on the last couple of days.

It has been the week of awards. We started on Monday with the AP All-SEC Lists. Then the coaches dropped their All-SEC lists — more on that in this article. The Dawgs have been hot on the recruiting trail and have lost just one player into the transfer portal. Some of the Dawgs’ assistant coaches have gotten targeted for other jobs, and while that is scary, it shows what kind of program head coach Kirby Smart is building.

Most of the awards have gone out this week, but there are still a few left out there. The Heisman Trophy ceremony is Saturday in New York City, and all of Dawg nation has to tune in to see if Stetson Bennett can shock the world again. Before we speculate, let’s get into what has happened in the Dawg world since Tuesday.

Georgia football racks up awards all week long.

In the last couple of days, Georgia has seen multiple honors come the Dawgs’ way, which is impressive.

It’s been a busy couple of days in the sports information department, but what an honor to see so many of these football players get the recognition they deserve. Let’s start with Brock Bowers, who took home the John Mackey Award, and while this should be his second straight Mackey Award, who cares anymore — he won, which is the first time in school history.

There isn’t another tight end that is better than Bowers in the country right now, and if he keeps it up, another Mackey Award could end up on his shelf next year. This year, he led the team with 52 catches for 726 yards and six touchdowns. While those numbers aren’t as good as last year’s, they are still pretty impressive. He was also one of the guys on the AP First Team All-SEC list and was a Rotary Lombardi Award finalist.

Bowers isn’t one to want to be in the limelight, but his talent is too much to keep him out of it.

He was one of three that landed on the Walter Camp All-American list as he landed on the Second Team. Jalen Carter and  Christopher Smith both landed on the First-Team All-American list. All three landed on the coaches’ All-SEC List with 10 other Dawgs.

On the First Team were Bowers, Warren McClendon, Carter, Smith, and Jack Podlesny. The Second Team featured Bennett, Ladd McConkey, Darnell Washington, Sedrick Van Pran, Nazir Stackhouse, Kelee Ringo and William Mote.

Now that is an All-SEC List the Dawgs deserved to have, and not what we wrote about earlier this month. We’re not done because this year has featured what Georgia has on its squad, and they deserve some love. On the Freshman All-SEC Team, the Dawgs saw Mykel Williams, Jalon Walker, Malaki Starks, and Brett Thorson voted onto the team. Smart was the coaches’ SEC Coach of the Year, and Podlesny got recognized as the Special Teams Player of the Year.

The AP voters snubbed Smart, but at least his fellow SEC coaches gave him the recognition he deserved. To do what Smart did is flat-out impressive and coach-of-the-year worthy.

To wrap up the awards portion of this newsy brief, the Georgia offensive line is one of the finalists for the Joe Moore Award, which is given annually to the best offensive line unit. We won’t know until later this month if the Dawgs won this, but it’s hard to say they aren’t the best out there.

Georgia football has one defensive lineman to enter the transfer portal.

While thousands of guys have been entering the transfer portal, Georgia has one publically entered. Bill Norton, a senior defensive lineman, announced on his Twitter and will have two years of eligibility left with his redshirt and COVID relief year in place.

He has 12 tackles throughout the last four seasons, with four last year for the national championship run and three this year. Norton will be immediately eligible to play in 2023 since this is his first transfer. There are no hard feelings here because he is a guy just trying to find more playing time and an opportunity to impress NFL scouts.

Norton deserves to shine, and we wish him the best of luck at his next school.

Georgia football could finish out this week with a Heisman Trophy winner and even more momentum surrounding the program. While it’s hard to fathom anymore, momentum could come to the Dawgs, Georgia is showing everyone it’s here to stay, and the success surrounding them is too.
