Georgia football: More awards pile in for this incredible team
Georgia football had a busy start to the month with all the awards its players got featured on, but those lists are still coming in as December continues. In the last couple of days, the Dawgs have seen players land on the SN All-American lists and AFCA All-American Team.
These players are racking up awards, but deservedly so, because they are some of the best out there. What they did on the field shows why Georgia is 13-0 and heading into its second straight playoff appearance, eying another national championship.
Georgia has four players on each of these lists, providing a little more recruiting juice to that dominating machine. People may not think about it, but these All-American lists help land big-time players.
These guys keep the awards piling in for Georgia Football.
On the Sporting News All-American teams, Christopher Smith, Jalen Carter, Brock Bowers and Jamon Dumas-Johnson were the four Dawgs listed.
Smith, Carter and Dumas-Johnson were on the first team, with Bowers landing on the second team. This announcement is a bit surprising because Bowers is the John Mackey Award winner, and there isn’t another tight end better than him in college football. However, you can’t win them all, and Bowers still got a little credit. Those other three are all first-teamers, though, because they helped Georgia avoid skipping much of a beat after losing so many to the NFL Draft.
Smith, Carter and Dumas-Johnson were all game-changers for the Dawgs on defense and deserved that first-team honor. These guys are going to be huge for Georgia in the playoffs. Smith and Carter were, of course, named AP First Team All-Americans earlier this week, along with many other honors. It’s good to see Dumas-Johnson land on a first-team list because he is a stud that led the defense in the position that suffered the most loss in 2021.
The same four players on the SN Teams were the four that landed on the AFCA All-America Teams. Bowers, Carter, and Smith were named to the All-America First Team, while Dumas-Johnson landed on the Second Team.
What an honor for these four guys to land on two prestigious lists and get recognized for a job well done this season. Georgia football takes on Ohio State in the Peach Bowl semifinal as the Dawgs look to take down the Buckeyes and head for their second-straight national title.
