Georgia football and the Ohio State Buckeyes put on a show and played in the best College Football Playoff semifinal since the beginning of this new era. The Buckeyes came to play, and the Dawgs had their moments too. However, it took an epic comeback, and a missed field goal as the clock hit midnight for Georgia to pull it off — a win is a win, though, and that is honestly all that matters.

This game between the Dawgs and the Buckeyes is how the playoffs should look. Two elite teams battled it out in a physical ballgame for one of the two coveted national championship spots is why the playoffs were created. These blowout semifinals are fun for the winning team, but this game proves when it goes down to the wire, it is so much better. Georgia was the team that got the miracle to happen, but Ohio State proved why they were one of the top four teams in the country.

Both semifinal games provided close games between the four best teams, proving the committee got it right. Four elite teams, one upset, and a missed field goal as the clock struck midnight — college football doesn’t get much better than this.

Georgia football and Ohio State gave college fans the best semifinal game ever.

It’s understandable why Ohio State fans are not happy and want to complain, but to lose by one against a stout team like Georgia is impressive. Those Buckeyes came ready to play with an excellent game plan. CJ Stroud, Marvin Harrison Jr, and the rest of the team dominated most of the game. They had Georgia on their toes all night long, but Georgia found a way. Great teams find ways to win the big games. Who cares if it wasn’t flawless — win, and you’re in, and that still rings true for the Dawgs.

I’m not saying Ohio State isn’t great either because tonight they proved to everyone they deserved that spot. They earned their spot in the playoff and didn’t waste it. The Buckeyes gave Georgia everything, and Georgia didn’t play its best. When you have teams battling like these two, it’s hard not to like it. Regardless of the outcome, this game was the best semifinal game ever. It was an instant classic, and Buckeye fans should be quite proud of their team — they gave it everything, and it fell short.

Georgia fans should also be proud of their team because we all thought the run was over in the third quarter. It looked bleak for a while, and I’m sure many fans were done with the whole team, but they won. The Dawgs never quit, though and lady luck, along with the help of the football gods, provided a miracle. Ohio State earned a lot of respect tonight, but so did Georgia.

This win didn’t have to be pretty — it just had to happen. Winning is everything, and while Georgia had a great night on the stat sheet, it was not the Dawgs’ best effort. Hopefully, this is the wake-up call before the national championship against TCU.

Fans know this game was huge for both programs, and it was the best semifinal yet. When this kind of ending happens, it’s hard not to put it up among the best games. What an ending for the Dawgs to stay alive and have one more game standing between them and a second-straight national title.
