Alabama lurking in the top five is precisely where Nick Saban would like to see his team start the season. Nothing would please him more than to prove the doubters wrong.

With that, the Crimson Tide lost a boatload of players to the NFL and to the transfer portal, and only have two new players entering via said portal.

What Nick Saban does have is — once again — the top recruiting class in the nation coming into Tuscaloosa, and the loss of Bryce Young will probably have a small effect on the Alabama offense, as Saban has two quarterbacks — Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson — ready to step in and battle it out.

Despite the questions, Alabama may be fielding one of their best teams in years. The young players who struggled early in the season last year showed a lot of maturity in the last two regular-season games and then in the throttling of Kansas State in the Sugar Bowl. Never count out Saban’s team.
