Georgia football schedule: Early game-by-game predictions for 2023 season
UAB Blazers vs Georgia Bulldogs
Series record: Georgia leads, 3-0
Last meeting: 56-7 Georgia, 2021
This will be Georgia’s fourth consecutive game at home before going on the road, and an always-dangerous UAB team coming into Athens right before Georgia heads out to meet rival Auburn the following week is a recipe for disaster.
The Blazers finished 2022 with a 7-6 record, putting them right in the middle of the Conference-USA standings. In 2023, they moved to the American Athletic Conference, so it may be a tougher year for UAB with a little stiffer competition within their conference.
So why would Georgia want to worry about this team? The Blazers will have a new head coach to go along with their new conference home, and Trent Dilfer would like nothing more than to make a big splash by upsetting his first major non-conference opponent.
Dilfer knows pro-style offenses and can install a playbook that will be easy for his team to grasp early in the season. He also knows how to win games using defense and ball control, and keeping Georgia’s potent offense off the field will be at the top of the former Super Bowl-winning QB’s list.
Is there any real chance Georgia dumps against a team like UAB? In most cases, no, but this does have all the earmarks of the classic trap game.
Chance of Upset: 5%
