Georgia fans may not be done celebrating the 2022 College Football National Championship yet, but the calendar has flipped, so when does the 2023 college football season begin?

While the college basketball world is looking towards the start of March Madness, those who live and breathe according to the football schedule are already looking to see when the 2023 college football season begins.

The first question is, does the season begin with spring football practice and the Spring Game? To some, that does indeed mark the unofficial start to the season. It signals the beginning of a new roster, and new position battles to go along with it.

For Georgia fans, the spring practice will begin on March 14, and the G-Day game will bring spring football to an end on April 15.

When does the 2023 college football season begin?

The 2023 college football season will kick off with three Week 0 games — Hawaii at Vanderbilt, Navy vs. Notre Dame (Dublin), and San Jose State at USC. In recent years, this first week of limited play has been named Week 0 since it’s not “officially” part of the weekly football slate.

College football in Ireland returned in the 2012 season after being on a hiatus since 1996. Since then there have been games played in 2014, 2016, and 2022. This year’s Navy-Notre Dame matchup is the rescheduling of a game in Dublin that was to be played in 2020, but was postponed due to the pandemic.

This will be the third time in program history that Notre Dame has played a game in Ireland, beating Navy in the two previous meetings, 54-27 and 50-10.

When does the Georgia Bulldogs 2023 college football season begin?

The Georgia Bulldogs football team will begin defending their second consecutive national championship on Saturday, September 2 against the UT Martin Skyhawks at Sanford Stadium.

In a fortuitous quirk of scheduling, Georgia will not play away from Sanford Stadium until Week 5, when they travel to play the Auburn Tigers in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry.

Other away games in the 2023 schedule include Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, and the annual cocktail party with the Florida Gators in Jacksonville.

Based on opponents’ 2022 win-loss records, Georgia currently has the 63rd most difficult schedule in the FBS, tied with LSU and Oregon.
