Georgia Bulldogs NFL Draft bust No. 5: Jarvis Jones

2013 NFL Draft, Round 1, Pick 17
Pittsburgh Steelers, 2013-2016

Jarvis Jones made a living on the other side of the line of scrimmage during his Georgia career. His strength, size, and nasty on-field demeanor made him a perfect candidate for a legendary defense like the Pittsburgh Steelers.

It seemed like the perfect fit, and the Steelers saw Jones as their next Hall of Fame defensive player on a team trying to make a return to the playoffs after losing a Super Bowl a few years earlier.

Jones was in and out of the starting lineup during his rookie season, and while he didn’t play horribly he certainly wasn’t the wrecking machine the Steelers saw on the field with the Bulldogs.

The rest of Jones’ career in Pittsburgh was mediocre at best. He had moments, and a few good games here and there, but never materialized into the dominating player the Steelers thought they were getting.

The team declined his fifth-year option, and Jones was signed by the Arizona Cardinals but was unable to make their roster due to injuries and poor play.

How big a bust was Jones? The pick was called the Steelers’ worst draft pick by Pro Football Focus going back to 2006.
