Georgia Bulldogs NFL Draft bust No. 6: Bernard Williams
1994 NFL Draft, Round 1, Pick 14
Philadelphia Eagles, 1994
When you take an offensive lineman with a top-fifteen pick, you’re expecting a lot out of that player. Bernard Williams was supposed to be the offensive tackle the Eagles could build around.
Things started out just as planned, with Williams starting all 16 games in the 1994 season, being named to the NFL All-Rookie team, and looking like the sensational player Philadelphia had seen at Georgia.
It all came unraveled when Williams tested positive for marijuana on several occasions, forcing the league to suspend him. He never applied for reinstatement and his promising NFL career lasted just the one season.
Williams bounced around several other leagues, including the XFL, CFL, and AFL, but never reached the heights that he looked to attain when he left college.
