Georgia Bulldogs NFL Draft bust No. 4: Matt Stinchcomb

1999 NFL Draft, Round 1, Pick 18
Oakland Raiders, 1999-2003
Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 2004-2005

Another case of an offensive lineman going early in the first round saw All-American and All-SEC tackle Matt Stinchcomb get selected by the then-Oakland Raiders.

Stinchcomb had been a stalwart player on the Dawgs’ offensive line and looked to be a sure-fire All-Pro player in the NFL. The Raiders, who were in desperate need of linemen at the time, jumped at the chance to take Stinchcomb with the No. 18 pick.

The Raiders would have to wait and see what they had, as Stinchcomb injured his shoulder and missed his entire rookie season. Eight games into his second season, he injured his knee and shoulder and missed the remainder of the year.

Oakland moved him from tackle to center, but injuries continued to hinder Stinchcomb’s progress.

In his entire NFL career, Stinchcomb only played one full, healthy season — the 2004 season with Tampa Bay — but a back injury and complications following surgery forced him into early retirement.
