On Wednesday, Georgia football fans and the rest of the SEC learned which conference opponents it would be facing in 2024. It’s a season that will mark a new era in college football, as not only will Texas and Oklahoma be joining the SEC, but the 12-team College Football Playoff will also make its debut.

The Bulldogs’ home schedule will feature traditional SEC rivals such as Auburn, Tennessee, and Florida (this game is in Jacksonville, but Georgia is the “home” team for this matchup). They will also welcome Mississippi State to Athens for the first time since 2017.

Georgia’s road schedule, however, has been the talk of fans. It’s highlighted by trips to Tuscaloosa to play Alabama, as well as Austin to take on the Texas Longhorns.

This will be the Bulldogs’ first meeting with Alabama since the famed 2022 National Championship game, and the Dawgs’ first trip to T-Town since 2017, a lopsided 41-24 Alabama win.

Georgia is 1-4 all-time against Texas, with the only win coming in the 1984 Cotton Bowl,  and has not played in Austin since 1958. The last meeting was in the 2019 Sugar Bowl when Sam Elingher and the Longhorns took down a depleted Georgia team.

The away schedule also includes games against Ole Miss and Kentucky. Georgia’s last trip to Oxford, MS was a forgettable one, as the Dawgs were soundly beaten by the Rebels 45-14 in 2016.

In addition to these games, Georgia will also start 2024 with a game against Clemson in Atlanta. They will also play Tennessee Tech, UMass, and Georgia Tech.

Though the 2023 season is right around the corner, it’s fun to look ahead to the exciting games on the schedule in 2024. The Dawgs have proven during Kirby Smart’s tenure that they are up for any kind of challenge, and it will be fun to see how they handle the opportunities that next season will bring.
