Kirby Smart was asked in Nashville at SEC Media days what order he says Georgia-Florida. Obviously, the only right answer is Georgia-Florida, which he said.

This is a fun argument between two bitter rivals, but it’s pretty simple. Georgia leads the series 55-44-2. Georgia has more wins all time, more national titles, and more bowl wins. The better overall program is Georgia. So, Georgia should come first. If you want to argue with that, I’m sorry It’s fact-based, Google it!

Of course, if you want to talk about who the better team was in the 90s, it’s Florida. Speaking of the 90s Gators team, The Head Ball Coach, Steve Spurrier decided to weigh in on the topic.

It’s not SEC Media Days week until HBC takes a dig at Georgia.

But also, it lit my burning hatred again for Spurrier. I truly dislike him. I’m sure he’s a great guy and all, but he’s down at some retirement home playing golf in Florida. Go away. Wake up at 5 am and play golf and go to bed at 8 pm after watching Jeopardy.

My hatred is different compared to many Georgia fans reading this, who had to live through Spurrier in Florida during the 90s and early 00s. I remember him as the old dude at South Carolina taking digs at Georgia and winning a few times. It was like an annoying uncle who gets under your skin from time to time.

Maybe the greatest game I have ever witnessed in person was the 2015 Georgia – South Carolina game. The fact Georgia hung 50 points on Spurrier with Grayson Lambert setting an NCAA record of completions, was fantastic.

Not one Georgia fan left Sanford Stadium that night till the clock hit triple zeros and many acted like they just won the national championship. In many respects, that night Georgia exercised some demons from the past. Spurrier soon retired after that game in-season. I think that one really hurt him.

Kirby in a way could be doing what Spurrier did for so many years at Florida and that’s own this rivalry. The Florida program is in a bad spot right now and has been for some time. In many ways, it can be compared to the 90’s for Georgia. I have no sympathy for Florida or their fans. They can continue to be miserable. I hope it stays that way forever.

On a more serious note, The game between Georgia and Florida should be called The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. Both Universities need to stop this silliness and just own it. Every college football fan knows it by that name. Both fanbases embrace it, and so should the schools.

I know there are political reasons why they haven’t. But it’s 2023, the world has changed. Reject modernization, and embrace tradition.
