Like I said a few days ago I am sure there would be a round 4 in the drama of UGA vs AJC. Well, there was a round 4, but it was the AJC falling on its sword.

It has been interesting to watch this all play out on social media. Rival fan bases ran with the headlines and took to the social media streets to celebrate the end of Kirby Smart as coach at Georgia.

Some Georgia fans did not even read the article and completely lost their minds and said it was all made up. Lies! The AJC is after UGA! Other fans, like myself, read the headline and thought to ourselves that this is a really bad look. But like many after I read the article I was left with a million questions. Then once the police report came out and I re-read the article I was left with 20 million questions.

Over the last few days, after UGA came out with the nine-page retraction demand letter, the story lost some steam. Especially after the news came out about  Judd having a similar incident 30 years ago in Louisville.  The part of the fanbase that wanted Judd from the jump, lost interest and went on to the next subject to be upset about.

Fans like myself (who are reading this) have followed this story till its conclusion. The problem I have with this whole thing is the AJC found only 2 things wrong about the article. It blows my mind they only found 2 issues with the article. To me, I could be wrong, I think there were a lot more than 2 issues with the reporting, but again I’m not Edward R. Murrow. If you don’t know who that is Google it, learn something.

Also, the people who are celebrating that Judd lost his job, stop it. You never celebrate someone losing their livelihood, regardless of what they did. Also, the people celebrating on Twitter as if  Kibry beat Judd, that’s weird too. I am not sure how to articulate this, but this was not a game where there is winners or losers. It is about what is true. If Judd’s reporting was 110% accurate, we would all be worried about what’s going on at our beloved football program. Furthermore, Kirby and the staff would be fired or suspended at the very least.

Judd’s firing does not come as a surprise. What I don’t understand is why he did not have his I’s dotted and his T’s crossed when writing his piece. He has been around the state of Georgia for over 20 years, he knew how much the football team means to this state. If you are going to go after the most beloved thing in the state you better have all your facts straight. Judd stepped in the hornet’s nest and then played the victim, which did bother me a little

The AJC fired Judd, I believe, for the report that came out about him at the Louisville paper over 30 years ago. It was a bad look when the article and the AJC were already being put under the microscope. The one rule in Journalism is, you have to be trustworthy. Judd’s record was not and for that, the AJC got rid of him. That’s my theory.

Thankfully, this story has come to a close. Meaning we can focus on Offensive line depth rather than reading a police report written over a year. Hopefully, the Georgia fan base will not have to see any more headlines and stories like the one Judd and others wrote anytime soon.
