Herschel Walker Halfback (1980-1982) Heisman Trophy 1982: Walker was born in 1962 and was raised in the small little town of Wrightsville, Georgia. Walker was the nation’s number-one player coming out of High school. Walker impressed Dooley in the fall camp of 1980, but back then it was extremely uncommon for freshmen to start or even play. Dooley decided to go with the more experienced backs to start the season. As fate would have it, Walker would get his chance to play when Georgia fell behind Tennessee.  Walker ran over Bill Bates and the rest… you know the rest. Walker and Georgia went on to win the 1980 National Championship and won the SEC 3 years in a row. Walker was consensus All-America from 1980-82 and held 11 NCAA records in his three years with the Dawgs. Walker was the first true freshman to ever get the honor of All-American and should have won the Heisman in 1980, But Walker won the award in 1982.
