“The Georgia Way” what does that exactly mean?  I have always heard this mantra for years and never knew what it meant. The only definition I knew of was “We are Georgia, We do things differently”.

“The Georgia Way ” was used a lot during the Richt years. Soon it was a tongue-in-cheek put down across social media from opposing fan bases and those in the Georgia fan base, who wanted Richt to lose his job.

Even when Kirby Smart was introduced as the Georgia Head coach in December of 2015, Smart used that mantra. What did it mean?

Soon thereafter, I understood what it meant. Yes, we do things differently, we are Georgia. But that isn’t the meaning. The Georgia Way is achieving goals by doing it the right way. UGA is one of the top-tier educations one can get in the US. Our athletic program is one of the best in the country. The Georgia Way is wanting and working towards being the best at everything.

That’s what Kirby Smart and his staff are doing with the football program. When you look at the coaching staff and the support staff, look at all the former players on it. It is littered with names you will all recognize. Kirby Smart, Will Muschamp, Mike Bobo, Bryan McClendon, Mike Cavan, Jonas Jennings, and Juwan Taylor. All of them know what The Georgia Way means.

The talking heads at SEC Media Days stated that Kibry took the blueprint of what Saban has done at Alabama and fine-tuned it. I would disagree with the latter part of that. Kirby took the blueprint and customized it to fit Georgia.

Look at the buy-in from the players, staff, fans, and the University. Money has poured into UGA either for Athletics or the University. Right now, is the “Camelot” days of Georgia. Everything is The Georgia Way. As someone who just graduated from school, you can feel that when you walk around campus.

The players have bought into The Georgia Way. Kirby touched on it when talking about the COVID-19 recruiting classes. All the players wanted to be at Georgia. All of them love the school. Sadrick Van Pran spoke on how the recent speeding epidemic has embarrassed the University and how he feels bad about that.

Another example of this love is all the kids when being recruited sent tape of them working out in their backyards. There is, of course, the famous workout clip of Brock Bowers running up a Napa, California Hill. But Smart touched on Kamri Lassister working out in his backyard and it showed Smart the hunger he had to play for the Dawgs. From top to bottom on the roster, there is buy-in to the Georgia Way. They all want to be a part of something special.

These years will be considered the good ole days in Georgia when Kirby retires. There has never been this much synergy at UGA. We all have to thank “The Georgia Way” for that.
