With the recent commitment of Justin Williams, Georgia has established itself as LBU. Georgia for a long time has always considered itself as RBU.

Think of the names that have come through, Sinkwich, Trippi, Herschel, Tate, Worley, Hampton, Hearst, Davis, Edwards, Musa, Brown, Moreno, Gurley, Marshall, Chubb, Michel, and Swift. Long list.

But recently Georgia has taken a dip in producing the game-changing Running Backs they are used to having. Now, that does not mean that Georgia does not have a great RB or won’t have any in the future.

There are still big-time recruits at running back that are still on the roster. Robison, Milton, and Paul are all 4-star or higher recruits and still might be the game-changing backs we are all used to Georgia having.

But since Kirby Smart has taken over, the Linebackers have been exceptional. Roquan Smith, Monty Rice, Nakobe Dean, Quay Walker. Also, it looks like and Smael Mondon are part of that list of great Linebackers.

Now this has just recently happened in Georgia Football history. It looks as though every  LB prospect points to Georgia and Smart as the place to get developed and go into the NFL.

The program once known for its stellar production of NFL running backs is now known for its production of NFL Linebackers. But this is also a product of the shift to a more defensive-minded team. Since Smart has taken over the Defense has been better than the offense. Furthermore, the outcomes of games have been more dependent on how the Defense plays.

In the past, it always seemed to ride on the offense’s shoulders and felt like it depended on whoever the running back was. Now, under Smart, the Dawgs are firmly a defensive team. Nationally the Georgia team is known for how well the Defense is.

In many respects, this is probably why guys like Stetson Bennett and Brock Bowers do not get the praise they so deserve. With offense becoming more dynamic in recent years, the offensive stars will start getting the praise they deserve.

Regardless, Smart and the staff have had great success recruiting and developing defensive players; especially at Linebacker. For that work, Georgia is no longer RBU, it is now LBU. It doesn’t look like it is going to change anytime soon.

But, who cares what position group Georgia is known for, as long as they win!
