In today’s world, everyone on social media uses DGD too much when talking about Georgia Football players. Everyone who goes through the Butts-Mehre building evidently is a DGD. However, a true DGD and one of the best retired from the NFL this weekend.

Sony Michel called it a career and retired. First, what Sony did was very relatable. We show up to work thinking about all the money we are about to make; then realizing how much work we have to put in. I believe most people would do something like that. These guys are just like us!

Sony will finish his career playing 5 seasons with over 3,243 yards rushing and 18 touchdowns. He also won two super bowls. Sony’s NFL career will be most remembered for his 2018 playoff run with the Patriots. Where he rushed for over 300 yards and 6 TD.

But of course, Sony Michel will be remembered chiefly for his time in Georgia. Chubb and Michel were the deadliest combos in all of CFB.

Michel will always be remembered for running all over Oklahoma in the 2018 Rose Bowl and scoring the game-winning TD to send Georgia to its first National title game since 1983. But many Georgia fans have memories of Sony running over 3 South Carolina Gamecocks in 2015 for a Touchdown. Others will remember the 2017 thrashing of Florida and Sony’s great game.

I’ll remember the 2016 Tech game, only for what it set up. That loss sprung Chubb and Michel decided to stay for one more year. Also, it helped Lorenzo Carter and Dalvin Bellamy to stay as well.

This not only gave Georgia great players and leadership returning to the 2017 team, but it also legitimized Kirby’s reign as Georgia’s coach. Furthermore, there was buy-in from the players and the rest is history.

Kirby knew that those four guys were extremely vital for the program and himself. That’s why during one of Smart’s press conferences before the Liberty Bowl against TCU, Smart made sure all 4 were there to announce they were returning.

The Georgia fans and program should send flowers every December over to the Tech football facility to say thank you. Tech really did us a favor in 2016.

Sony Michel will be remembered for a lot of things, but he will always be a Damn Good Dawg!
