A lot has been made out of Georgia’s football strengths and weaknesses. Especially the depth at certain position groups. One position group that does not get enough love is the tight-end group.

Obviously, Brock Bowers is the best player in all of CFB. It really isn’t all that hard to understand what a generational talent Bowers is.  Many around the country know Bowers, but outside of that, they could not name the rest of Georgia tight ends.

Oscar Delp and Lawson Luckie were both high 4-star recruits and were both 1 and 2 tight-end prospects in their respective classes. Delp, who has had a full year on the team, looks to make a leap in playing time and offensive production.

Delp will be replacing Darnell Washington, who Georgia’s offense greatly depended on. But Delp is not going to be exactly like Washington, he is more of the style of Bowers. Which, for the Georgia offense, is a good problem to have. According to those who got to see the first practice of fall camp, Delp has put on more muscle and looks the part of a great tight end.

Lawson Luckie is an incoming freshman and has freakish abilities. Luckie looks to be in the role of what Delp did last year. Many people around the Georgia football program said that this spring Luckie really turned some heads. If Luckie can recreate his spring, in fall camp, Georgia is going to have three serviceable tight ends.

With Washington leaving for the NFL, Georgia’s offense will change just a little. Washington was a huge factor in the run game and a lot of the ground game revolves around what Washington could do. Delp and for that matter Bowers are both good run blockers, but they are both there for one reason and that’s to catch the ball. The days of Georgia football using 12 personnel for the run game, will decrease. However, I think Bobo will use all three tight ends in different packages several times in a game. Just not necessarily in the run game.

While Georgia’s offense will change slightly, Georgia’s tight end room is the deepest and most talented in the country. It is the best in the entire country. Trying to figure out how to replace Darnell Washington with the amount of talent Georgia has, is a great problem for the Dawgs.

Growing up, my love for sports was undeniable. Whether it was watching games or getting involved in playing them, sports have always been a significant part of my life. As a lifelong Dawg fan, I've experienced the pain and misery of the most heartbreaking ways to lose. Thats all we knew till 2021; heartbreak. I currently live in the shadow of the iconic Sanford Stadium. With my wife and adorable newborn baby.
