Georgia football continues to show why they have been the most dominant team the past two years having 6 players named in the top 100 list.

Brock Bowers was listed 2nd only to the reigning Heisman trophy winner Caleb Williams. While I think Bowers is probably the best player pound-for-pound in college football, I understand why Williams is #1. If Bowers could touch the ball on every play he would’ve won the Heisman last year. Plus the quarterback position is a much more valuable position than tight end.

An interesting note about the ESPN list is that Mykel Williams was ranked #10. Williams, a sophomore defensive lineman, flashed in his freshman campaign. ESPN believes that Williams is going to do more than flash this season. Williams has the potential to be a very special player at Georgia. I think a lot of people close to the program feel as though he could be as dominant as David Pollack and Jarvis Jones. Which is saying a lot. I’m a big fan of the guy, I think he can be a special player at Georgia, but putting him at ten is lofty. However, if Williams has the season most are expecting we may very well be talking about Williams in August as the #1 player in the country.

Others to make the list were Jamon Dumas-Johnson in 24th, Malaki Starks ranked 40th, Smael Mondon ranked 41st, and Sedrick Van Pran, ranked 42nd. Starks, I believe is one of if not the best safety in college football. Personally, he should be higher.

If you have read the blog over the last few weeks then you know where I stand on Sedrick Van Pran. The guy is the most important player Georgia has. Moreover, Van Pran is probably behind Bowers as the best player the Dawgs have. Look, I love offensive linemen, it’s probably because that’s what I played. But they never get the love they deserve. Sedrick Van Pran is a great center and will be in the NFL.

Some honorable mentions that were not on that list were defensive backs, Javon Bullard and Kamari Lassiter. Both played a ton last year and did well. Georgia’s secondary is probably the best in the country, Lassiter and Bullard will both be important keys in making Georgia’s secondary one of the best.

Another name not on the list was Amarius Mims, who many expect to be a first-round pick in next year’s NFL Draft. Again, Offensive Linemen do not get any love. Mims is an athletic freak. The other day, I heard that Mims was tracked running at 19 MPH. Mims is 6’8, 330 pounds, could you imagine him running to you at almost 20 MPH? So, needless to say, Mims should be in the top 100.

Georgia has the number one team in the nation and with the number of players that are thought of as being the best, Georgia very easily could stay number for a while.
