Georgia Football: Week 5 best bets and predictions
By Max Tolbert
It is week five for Georgia football and the rest of college football. We are one week away from the halfway point of the CFB season. I still do not have a read on a single team yet. No team is head and shoulders above anybody else. Week 5 is the best SEC slate this season, so enjoy it, folks! It is time for the weekly picks for college football. Last week was a decent week for this blogger. It was a decent week outside of picking Ole Miss and the Lane Trian getting walloped at Alabama. Why did I bet on Lane Kiffin? Why? Why did I get suckered into that? I’m still sick about it. I went 2-2, and I will not complain about it.
Overall, for the year, I am 7-9. Not bad, not superb either. So, I need to win at least 90% of my bets this week to get above .500. That is all you can ask for when you bet. Alright, let’s get into some picks.
Texas A&M vs. Arkansas (+6.5) over/under 53.5- Ceasers
- Date: September 30, 2023
- Game Time: 12:00 pm
- Venue: AT&T Stadium- Jerry World (Arlington, TX)
- How to Watch: SEC Network

Conner Weigman, the Aggies starting QB, is now out for the season. Max Johnson, the transfer from LSU, is now the starter for the Aggies. The Aggies are still in the picture for the SEC West, even though they have lost. The Aggies got embarrassed on the road against Miami. After that game, many have forgotten about the Aggies. Last week, they beat Auburn 27-10, and I only watched because Georgia is playing Auburn this week. Watching the game, I was bored to death. It was like watching the paint dry. However, A&M looked like a decent team.
I only watched the highlights of the Arkansas vs. LSU game, but the Hogs impressed me. Honestly, I have a sweet spot in my heart for Arkansas. I like the whole Woo Pig Sooie thing; I like they wear red, and I love they have a hog for a mascot. If I knew nothing about CFB, I would be a fan. Plus, they have Sam Pittman; as a Georgia fan, how can you dislike the Pitt Boss? So, I’ll take Arkansas to cover the 6.5 points. I do not think they will win outright, but they will keep it close. I am also not going to take the over/under. This game is in Jerry’s world, and I do not know what to think. They always play a nutty game in Dallas.
Flordia vs. Kentucky (-1.0) over/under 45.0- Ceasers
- Date: September 30, 2023
- Game Time: 12:00 pm
- Venue: Kroger Field- (Lexington, KY)
- How to Watch: ESPN

This game is essentially a pick ‘em. Vegas is basically telling you they have no idea who will win this game. Well, here at Dawn of The Dawg, we will. Kentucky, Kentucky, Kentucky. Everyone is so impressed with the Gator’s win that they are drunk off of it. Flordia only scored 20 points against Charlotte! Do not be fooled by the Gators.
Florida is terrible, and I would not be surprised if Kentucky beats them by two touchdowns. Kentucky’s head coach, Mark Stoops, asked the Wildcat faithful to be loud and show up on time. Florida is about to walk into a buzzsaw, and I will enjoy every second of it.
Also, I’ll give any other prediction. I bet all of the College Gameday crew will pick Flordia. Their Flordia love blinds everyone from seeing that Billy Napier was coaching for his life against Tennessee. If Florida had lost to the Vols, the pitchforks would be out for ole Slingblade Billy. So give me the Wildcats and the under.
LSU vs. Ole Miss (+2.5) over/under 67.5- Ceasers
- Date: September 30, 2023
- Game Time: 6:00 pm
- Venue: Vaught Hemingway- (Oxford, Ms)
- How to Watch: ESPN

Last week, for some reason, I picked a Lane Kiffin team to beat Nick Saban. I am a giant dummy for picking Ole Miss to win that game. Out of all the games I picked this season, that one will forever haunt me. I am sick of it. Will I pick the Rebels again in a big spot?
LSU has turned it around this season after losing to FSU, with a blowout win on the road in Starkville and a win at home against Arkansas. LSU looks to be rebounding, but the line is only 2.5. The only threat to win the SEC against Georgia is LSU. So, the Tigers need to keep the train rolling and get a win on the road against a rival.
I don’t like doing this because I am not 100% confident in the pick, but I’ll pick LSU. I’ll take the Bayou Bengals because they are the better team roster-wise. It is on the road; Ole Miss is fighting for their season, and I could see this going sideways. But because of that talent, that is why I am rolling with LSU. I will take the over; I see this becoming a shootout and a back-and-forth game. So, the over and the Tigers in this one.
South Carolina vs. Tennesse (+12.0) over/under 63.5- Ceasers
- Date: September 30, 2023
- Game Time: 7:30 pm
- Venue: Neyland Stadium- (Knoxville, TN)

Tennesse is a two-score favorite in this one, huh? I know the Vol fan base is saying this game is for revenge because of last season’s loss to South Carolina. I have heard that Heupel really dislikes South Carolina. The Vols are also wearing all-black for this game. Man, those get-ups for the Vols are ugly. But anyway, for Tennesse, it is a significant game.
For South Carolina, they are looking to take that next step in the SEC. They went toe-to-toe against the two-time champions on the road. Moral victories are significant for the Chickens, and they are hoping they can get an actual victory on Saturday. Spencer Rattler is probably the best QB in the SEC, and if you disagree, I am sorry, but I’m right. They also have two of the best WRs in the SEC. Juice Wells, one of those wide receivers, is still hurt. However, they still have Xavier Legette, who really impressed me when South Carolina played Georgia.
I am not a believer in the Vols, and for that reason, I’ll take South Carolina. We are all under-valuing South Carolina for that loss against UNC in week one. Georgia needs the Gamecocks to win to make that struggle-fest look better. I am unsure if the Gamecocks will win outright, but they will cover the spread. Also, the over is so tempting to take. Life is too short to bet the under, so with that thinking, I’ll take the over.
There you have it, the four picks of the week. Hopefully, I won’t split this week and, at the very least, win 3 of the four games. Enjoy your Saturday, and remember that Georgia will cover the spread against Auburn. Read tomorrow for the game preview and predictions. I have a good feeling about this one for the Dawgs!
