Georgia Football: Dawgs open up as big favorites against Missouri
By Max Tolbert
Georgia football is facing its toughest stretch to finish its season. Georgia is coming off a blowout victory against the Florida Gators, where the Dawgs won 43-20. Many nationwide were calling for an upset because of the Brock Bowers injury. The Dawgs have silenced the doubters, but not for long.
The Dawgs take on the Missouri Tigers this upcoming Saturday. The Dawgs are 16.5-point favorites as of Sunday afternoon. This point spread is more significant than the game against Florida.
But when you look at the spread, it makes more sense. The Tigers are playing on the road in Athens, where the last road team to beat Georgia in Sanford Stadium was in 2019. Furthermore, the only big win Mizzou has is against Kansas State, where they had to hit a 61-yard at the buzzer to win.
The Dawgs are not only favorites in the point spread, but they are also favorites. According to ESPN analytics, the Dawgs have an 83.4% chance to win the game. The Dawgs are big favorites at home. I would not be shocked if the Dawgs are going to be doubted this week once again.
Many have already considered this game the SEC East championship. While that may not be 100% true, should Georgia win, they would have the inside track to win the East.
Doing some advanced math, Georgia would be able to clinch the SEC East in Knoxville against the Vols. However, if the Tigers pulled off the upset, they would have to drop two more games for Georgia to make it back to Atlanta for the third year in a row.
Georgia had their bye week two weeks ago in preparation for the rivalry game against the Gators. Meanwhile, Mizzou is fresh off a bye week heading into Athens. The game is set to kick off this Saturday at 3:30 and be broadcast on CBS.
