SEC quarterback power rankings (How high did Carson Beck climb?)
By Josh Yourish
The biggest game across the SEC in Week 10 was LSU vs. Alabama and the two quarterbacks, Jayden Daniels and Jalen Milroe decided that one with their legs, not their arms. LSU took the loss, and Daniels was injured in the process, so can he claim the top spot in the SEC QB power rankings?
Most of the other challengers for the No. 1 ranking, Jaxson Dart, Jalen Milroe, and Carson Beck all won on Saturday, so the top of these rankings will get interesting.
Alabama looks like it has locked up the SEC West, despite questions at quarterback to start the season, so the best conference in college football isn’t always decided by the most important position. Still, it doesn’t hurt to have a top QB.
The Georgia Bulldogs certainly do. Replacing Stetson Bennett was not a huge deal for Kirby Smart. Beck has his team at 9-0 and heading back to the SEC championship game. We’re through 10 weeks in College Football and these are the SEC QB rankings. Let’s go!
SEC QB rankings No. 14: Mike Wright, Miss State
- Passing yards: 385
- TD: 3 INT: 3
- Comp: 56.6%
- YPA: 5.1
Will Rogers is out and Mike Wright is nothing more than a backup quarterback. He’s a senior, so he’s not the future at the position and after three starts, he may not even be good enough to be the present. Wright has only thrown for over 100 yards in one of his three starts and is 1-2 in those games.
His legs save him a bit with 281 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns this year, but in Week 10 against Kentucky, he only ran for 20 yards on 11 carries while throwing for 78 yards on 11 of 21 passing with one interception. Mississippi State lost 24-3.
On deep passes, which are classified as throws that travel over 20 air yards, Wright is averaging 5.8 yards per attempt. That’s by far the worst in the SEC for QBs with over 100 dropbacks. Second to last is Devin Leary at 9.1 YPA.
Will Rogers has said he plans to be back for the Egg Bowl in three weeks.
