SEC quarterback power rankings (How high did Carson Beck climb?)
By Josh Yourish
SEC QB rankings No. 3: Jalen Milroe, Alabama
- Passing yards: 1,835
- TD: 13 INT: 5
- Comp: 64.8%
- YPA: 10.4
I knocked Beck for his inability to solve problems, well Jalen Milroe has turned into the ultimate problem solver at Alabama with his aggressiveness and his legs. Alabama’s offensive line is a disaster and they allow pressure on 37.7% of Milroe’s dropbacks which is the fifth-highest pressure rate on a QB in the SEC. However, two of the quarterbacks ahead of him are both at Texas A&M, so really it is the fourth-worst O-line in the conference.
Despite that, Milroe is second to only Jayden Daniels in yards per attempt on all dropbacks at 10.4 with a 64.6% completion rate despite the highest average depth of target in the SEC and second highest in the country at 14.1.
When pressured, Milroe averages 12.9 yards per attempt which also leads the SEC and ranks second nationally. His ADOT under pressure jumps to 18.3 yet he has an adjusted completion percentage of 77.4% on those throws. For comparison, Carson Beck is at 65.4%.
His sack rate is high when pressured because he can hold onto the ball too long, however, his rushing EPA of 25.2 and his 33 scrambles make up for a lot of those lost yards.
Milroe isn’t going to dissect a defense and string together completions, but he moves the chains with his legs. He had a rough start to the season, but offensive coordinator Tommy Rees has done an incredible job tailoring the offense to Milroe’s strengths and he’s suddenly one of the best players in the SEC.
