SEC quarterback power rankings (How high did Carson Beck climb?)
By Josh Yourish
SEC QB rankings No. 2: Jaxson Dart, Ole Miss
- Passing yards: 2,467
- TD: 16 INT: 4
- Comp: 65.6%
- YPA: 10.1
Last season, Lane Kiffin ran the ball at service academy levels. The Rebels averaged 258.3 rushing yards a year ago and Dart only threw for 2,974 yards all season. This year, through nine games, he’s already thrown for 2,467 yards and only has four interceptions compared to 11 last year.
The rushing attack has fallen off, but that’s because Kiffin trusts his junior quarterback a lot more. Spencer Sanders transferred in and there was a thought he may compete for the job with Dart, but Dart won it and has taken a leap.
Dart averaged 8.2 yards per attempt last year, but this season he’s up to 10.0 and a lot of that has to do with how he’s handling pressure. A season ago, he threw six interceptions and just two touchdowns when pressured and only averaged 5.3 yards per attempt on those plays. His adjusted completion rate was 53.8%.
Now, his numbers under pressure are much better. He is averaging 8.9 yards per attempt with a 65.3% adjusted completion rate and no interceptions despite being pressured on 32.5% of his dropbacks.
He not only thrives in chaos but is also excelling in structure. On intermediate throws (throws between 10-19 yards) he has a 64.0% completion rate, second best in the SEC. Last season he was at 51.1% with six TDs to seven interceptions. This year he has 10 touchdowns and just two picks on those throws.
