SEC quarterback power rankings (How high did Carson Beck climb?)
By Josh Yourish
SEC QB rankings No. 9: Joe Milton III, Tennessee
- Passing yards: 2,017
- TD: 15 INT: 4
- Comp: 65.5%
- YPA: 7.8
The first thing anyone thinks about with Joe Milton is the arm strength. He has an absolute rocket launcher attached to his right shoulder, so it may surprise you to find out that he’s terrible at throwing the deep ball.
Last year, Tennessee’s offense thrived because Hendon Hooker did a great job pushing the ball downfield, but now that element is gone.
Milton is only completing 28.3% of his passes over 20 yards with seven touchdowns and four interceptions. 17.9% of his passes are deep and his average depth of target on those passes is an SEC-best 37.1 yards. Yet, he is 13th in the conference in yards per attempt because of his lack of accuracy.
He is sixth in the conference in QBR, just ahead of Graham Mertz, but slots in a few spots below his fellow Big Ten to SEC transfer.
