SEC QB rankings No. 8: Max Johnson, Texas A&M

  • Passing yards: 1,452
  • TD: 9 INT: 5
  • Comp: 62.1%
  • YPA: 7.6

First, it was Conner Weigman, but after he got injured, Texas A&M turned to Max Johnson. Jimbo Fisher has gotten good quarterback play from both, but the abysmal play of the A&M offensive line has made life miserable for Weigman and Johnson.

Johnson has been pressured on 43.9% of his dropbacks, which is the most in the SEC. Weigman is third on that list.

This season, Johnson’s biggest strength has been throwing the deep ball and that takes time. Johnson has an average time to throw of 2.93 seconds on throws over 20 air yards, so he’s often in harm’s way with a shaky offensive line. He has a 44.8% completion percentage on those throws, but three drops hurt that number.

The biggest flaw in Johnson’s game is the turnover-worthy plays. he has thrown five picks and has registered 14 turnover-worthy plays. He could thrive with a better offensive line, but the turnovers would need to be drastically reduced to move up this list.
