SEC quarterback power rankings (How high did Carson Beck climb?)
By Josh Yourish
SEC QB rankings No. 6: Spencer Rattler, South Carolina
- Passing yards: 2,516
- TD: 14 INT: 6
- Comp: 69.7%
- YPA: 8.3
It could be controversial to have Spencer Rattler this high. He doesn’t have a particularly high approval rating dating all the way back to the Netflix show QB1 when he was a five-star Oklahoma commit in high school.
However, Rattler has done a nice job transforming himself as a QB since transferring to South Carolina. He is accurate and slightly more decisive, though he still holds onto the ball too long. He has been pressured on 38.1% of his dropbacks with a terrible offensive line in front of him.
That pressure has led to four of his six interceptions, but against pressure, he has a 68% adjusted completion rate which is impressive considering he has faced pressure on the eighth most dropbacks in the entire country.
Rattler has the arm strength to push the ball downfield and his accuracy on deep passes separates him from Graham Mertz. If the game is on the line I know that Rattler will try to make a play, Mertz might check it down to his running back with no time on the clock because the Hail Mary was covered.
