Georgia Football: Dawgs still #2 in CFP rankings
By Max Tolbert
Georgia football takes on the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday. The game was already a top-ten matchup, but some thought that there could be a possibility that the Dawgs could be the number-one team in the country. The CFP committee rankings came out Tuesday night, and the Dawgs were still at the number two spot. Ohio State remains number one, even after struggling with Rutgers.
For those wondering what the top 25 for the CFP rankings are, look no further:
Ole Miss moved from number ten to number 9, and Tennessee moved from number 17 to number 13. So, Georgia will face top 15 teams in the next two games. If The Vols this week lose to Missouri, they will more than likely be in the top 25 but not in the top 15. Interestingly, Mizzou only dropped down two spots to Number 14 after losing on the road last week to the Dawgs.
Alabama still holds firm at number 8, and more than likely, the Dawgs will have to face the Tide in the SEC Championship. If the Dawgs win out the regular season, they do not have to worry about making the final 4, even if they lose the SEC Championship. All the scenarios are engaging, but if you are the Dawgs, all you have to do is win every game and not worry about whether you are in or not.
You are dying to read my opinion on the rankings; just holding your breath to see what I think. Well, I do not care what the rankings are as long as Georgia is in the dance. At this point, I have become numb to the CFP playoff rankings. As long as Georgia wins, it will take care of itself. I will worry if the Dawgs drop a game to worry about rankings and scenarios for us to get into the playoff.
Georgia will be favored in every game they play the rest of the way, and they should win every game they play. I don’t want to hear any excuses for Georgia to be in the playoffs if they lose a game in the regular season. The Dawgs, in my eyes, are the number-one team and are the favorites to win the national title.
Like Kirby Smart said, he doesn’t coach to cover point spreads; he coaches to win games. That is what the Dawgs need to do. Just win, baby!
