Georgia Football: Dawgs embarrass Vols on Rocky Top 38-10
By Max Tolbert
Georgia football crushes Tennessee 38-10. What a dismantling of the Vols by the Dawgs. All I heard this week was how loud Neyland Stadium is. It was loud for about a quarter, and the Dawgs scored 24 unanswered points.
Georgia also made history this afternoon by tying the record for consecutive SEC wins. The team will now look to break the record against the hated “trade school on North Avenue.” I would pick them to break the record, but who knows- anything can happen.
Georgia’s defense once again gave up a first-drive touchdown. This time, the Dawgs defense did it on the first play. The 75-yard rushing touchdown put the Vols up 7-0. After that long touchdown run, Tennessee only had 55 yards rushing yards the rest of the game.
The “dynamic” Vols offense sputtered the rest of the game as Joe Milton was 17 of 30 on passing attempts and only threw for 147 yards. I have to say, Joe Milton is one of my favorite quarterbacks that has ever played against the Dawgs. Did you know he can throw a football for 120 yards? Wow!
Speaking of great performances, Carson Beck was on fire for the Dawgs. He threw for 298 yards and three touchdowns. Furthermore, it was Beck’s accuracy that impressed me. Beck was 24 of 30 on passing attempts. Beck had an 80% passing completion percentage. What a day!
I have written about this since the Flordia game, but Beck deserves to be in the Heisman conversation. Not only should he be in the conversation, but he should also be one of the finalists. Beck does not put up eye-popping stats, but he does everything right to keep the Dawgs on the winning track.
The Dawgs offensively gained 472 yards. It was just another great showing by the Dawgs offense and Mike Bobo. All of those complaints early in the season have ceased to exist.
However, nobody has said anything about the dip in production by the offense. Last week, the Dawgs had 600 yards, and this week, they only have 400 yards. Should Bobo be fired? People are asking! That is 100% sarcasm, and I hope you know that.
Outside of that first drive of the game, the Dawgs defense played lights out. Moreover, the play of the defensive backs for the Dawgs was excellent. Not only did they not give up a big chunk play through the air, but they also tackled in space.
Also, Tykee Smith had himself a ball game. Smith has been a solid replacement for Chris Smith Jr., Tykee Smith, and C.J. Allen, the two most impressive defensive players this season.
The Dawgs did not escape injury unscathed. Tate Ratledge suffered a knee injury and was out for the rest of the game. However, he was on the sideline with his pads and nothing on his knee, which could be a good sign.
Ladd McConkey and Rara Thomas both were sidelined during the game. McConkey played three snaps in the game but did not play after. I don’t know if it was his ankle, his back, or something else. I guess we will learn later. that Rara Thomas injured his foot; still no word on how serious it is.
Dillon Bell made up for the injured receiving core. Bell had five receptions for 90 yards and one touchdown. Bell also picked up the slack for Carson Beck. Bell threw for an 18-yard touchdown that put the Dawgs up in the first quarter. Dillion Bell is the MVP of this game.
The Dawgs went into Knoxville and embarrassed the Vols in front of their fanbase. I take absolute joy in knowing that many Vols fans thought they could make it a ball game, and instead, the Dawgs just whipped them in front of Dolly Parton and Peyton Manning. Also, Tennessee couldn’t even get the mic right for Dolly. How embarrassing! But that was not the only low point for the Vols, as the Dawgs ended their home winning streak. The last team Tennessee lost to at home before that was… Georgia.
It was an excellent game for the Dawgs in a hostile environment. The Dawgs continue to look like the number-one team in the country. The Dawgs are peaking at the right time, and the rest of college football is starting to worry that the Dawgs will three-peat. We will see if that is possible. But next up is Tech, and we all need to start hating Tech right this second.
