December 5, 1981: No. 2 Georgia, Herschel Walker roll over the Jackets

Once again, the Bulldogs came into their year-end matchup with Georgia Tech ranked in the top five and were hungry to repeat as national champions.

The game was at Bobby Dodd Stadium (then called Grant Field) in Atlanta, and Tech’s only win that season was an opening-week upset of then-No. 2 Alabama. Tech head coach Bill Curry wanted to bookend his season with like upsets.

It wasn’t even close. Buck Belue opened the scoring by hitting Lindsay Scott for an 80-yard touchdown pass, as Herschel and the Dawgs ran up and down the field against the Yellow Jackets, en route to a Georgia rout.

ABC probably still regrets moving that game into a primetime slot.
