It is that time of year for Georgia Football. For the past few seasons, Georgia has always had a coach rumored for a head coaching job. Many would think that Glenn Schumann, Georgia’s defensive coordinator, would be rumored for a job. However, Fran Brown, Georgia’s defensive backs coach, is rumored for the Syracuse job.

Brown, a Camden, New Jersey native, is being targeted as the next head coach of the Orange. Brown joined the Dawgs right after Georgia beat Alabama in the 2022 National Championship.

From 2020 through the 2021 season, Brown was Rutgers’s secondary coach. He played at Western Carolina University. Before coaching at Rutgers, he held coaching positions at Temple and Baylor. At Temple, Brown was the co-defensive coordinator in 2019.

Brown is currently ranked the #1 recruiter in the 2024 cycle. Brown has had a big hand in recruiting the #1 recruiting class for the Dawgs. Brown seems like a great higher for Syracuse because of his tenacity on the recruiting trail, and he seems to be a great coach. People with close sources in the Georgia program all say that Fran Brown helps with the defensive game plan each week and is one of the coaches on the sidelines who makes the key adjustments with Glenn Schumann.

Being a defensive back coach for a Kirby Smart-led team has to be one of the toughest jobs in college football. Moreover, having Will Mushchamp being on staff adds to the pressure. Brown had thrived in this position, which is why he will likely end up as the coach at Syracuse.

Replacing Brown will definitely not be easy for the Dawgs. We will see who they hire in his place. Fans have floated names around on social media, but nothing more than that. It will be interesting to see what Smart does with the opening. We are now in the phase of the Georgia run, where every school wants a piece of Georgia’s success. So get used to coaches coming and going this offseason.

According to Brent Axe, a reporter for Syrcuse.com, Brown will be the Orange’s new head coach by Monday. We will keep an eye out for any more updates on the situation.
