Georgia Football plays for the SEC Championship. The Dawgs are about a touchdown favorite over Alabama. Now, many talking heads on TV say they expect Alabama to win. They have a right to their opinion; we live in a free society.

But the points they make for why Alabama will beat Georgia are not based on actual football. Most think Nick Saban will way his way to a  mighty Crimson Tide victory because he is Nick Saban. Football doesn’t work that way; I hate to break it to everybody reading this. So, what are the keys for Georgia to win this game against Alabama? I have three keys that will guarantee a Dawgs victory on Saturday night.

  1. Keeping Milroe in the pocket:

When you read “keeping Milroe in the pocket,” you spoke to yourself and said, “duh, dummy.” First, that was not very nice, but also, yes, it is pretty simple. Keeping Milroe in the pocket makes him uncomfortable. Milroe does not stand back there and picks apart a defense. Milroe will see what the defense is doing, and if it is not there, he will roll out and try to make something happen or use his legs. The Dawgs defense has to be disciplined enough not to rush past the QB and to contain the outside edge. While Georgia’s weakness on defense has been outside runs, running sideline to sideline with the Dawgs is never a recipe for success.

Furthermore, the Dawgs have to limit Milroe’s legs. I would be shocked if they shut down Milroe completely, but I suspect the Dawgs will limit the impact on his legs on Saturday. It will be a long night for Alabama on offense if they do

2. Redzone scoring:

This goes for both Georgia’s offense and defense. When the Dawgs’ offense gets inside the 20-yard line, they have to score touchdowns; they cannot settle for field goals. Alabama’s defense is one of the best defenses in the country when it comes to stopping teams in the red zone. This is the best defense the Dawgs will face all season long. If the Dawgs can score touchdowns in the red zone, they will win this game comfortably.

In most games, the final score is tighter than people thought it would be because the Georgia offense settled for field goals. It has happened in multiple games. It can not happen on Saturday. Same with the defense; they must be able to stop Alabama from scoring touchdowns in the red zone. Georgia’s defense has a few weaknesses, and one of them is red zone scoring.

Georgia won the 2021 National Championship because they stopped Alabama from scoring six multiple times and forced them to kick field goals. The same has to happen on Saturday.

3. Turnovers:

This is the most important key in the game. Georgia has been on the negative end of the turnover battle all season. When the Dawgs play a clean game, they win big. Can this be the game where the Dawgs do not commit any turnovers, and Alabama turns the ball over a few times?

Alabama is 10th in the country in turnovers. They have only turned the ball over ten times. Georgia has turned the ball over 13 times and ranks 25th. Can that stat line invert? If it does, I think Georgia can win this game with ease.

However, if the Dawgs turn the ball over, I can see this game being a knife fight until the end. Turnovers were the last time these two teams met, and they gave Alabama a victory. It is imperative that Georgia wins the turnover battle in this game.

Hot. Playing in Atlanta is not a curse, Georgia fans!. light
