Georgia Football will take on Alabama for the SEC Championship on December 2nd in Atlanta, Georgia. The game is set to kick off at 4:00 on CBS. This will be CBS’s last game broadcasting the SEC. It will also be the last time we hear that excellent intro music. However, CBS will still use it for Big 10 games, which is weird.
This is also the last year of the East vs.West SEC Championship. This division set-up in the SEC has been around since the 1992 season. We all have been trying to figure out how our team will get into the SEC Championship with divisions. Now, it is going to be even more challenging to figure out. It will take some getting used to.
Georgia is currently a 5.5-point favorite in this game against Alabama. The line has also moved up since Alabama struggled with Auburn last Saturday. The Dawgs were also favorites in the last SEC Championship game when they played Alabama and lost. So, we will see if the Dawgs can reverse that narrative.
Since this is the last year of the division, this will also be the last year where the division’s trade is the home and away teams. This time, the West team is the home team, meaning Alabama is the home team. On Saturday, they will wear their Crimson jersey, helmet, and white pants. Meanwhile, the Dawgs are the away team. The Dawgs will wear White jerseys, red helmets, and silver britches.
Under Kirby Smart, the Dawgs have won some big games in their away uniforms. One of those big games was the 2022 national championship against Alabama in Indianapolis. That was also the last time these two teams faced each other. The last time these two faced off was in 2022. We all know what happened on that cold January night up in Indianapolis. Georgia won its first national championship in 41 years against Alabama.
I was there that night, and I remember almost every moment of that game except Ringo’s run into the endzone. Once he picked the ball off, I started crying so hard I had to put my hat over my face and sit down. I thought Ringo was already tackled, and then the crowd got louder. When I looked up, I saw Dan Jackson getting blown up and Ringo running toward me into the endzone. I never saw him go across the endzone. Pure pandemonium. It was the most incredible day of my life and probably yours too.
It is still unknown if the Dawgs will be with several key offensive players on Saturday. Brock Bowers, Ladd McConkey, Tate Rateledge, and Rara Thomas have all missed time the past few weeks. They also all missed the game against Georgia Tech because of injury. If I had to bet my life on it, I think that they all play. Hopefully, Ladd McConkey and Brock Bowers are as close to 100% as they can be.
Georgia looks to create more memories with a win Saturday against Alabama. As a trip to the CFP playoffs is on the line.
