Georgia football will play in the Orange Bowl against Florida State on December 30th, 2023. This bowl game could be dubbed as “Screwed over Bowl.” FSU and Georgia believe they deserve a shot at being in the CFP playoff, but now both will play in Miami for a New Year 6 bowl.

I know many of you reading this feel the same way I do. This stinks. But here is some spin to get some interest in the game. One, there will be opt-outs for the Dawgs. There will be a ton of fresh faces in the game for the Dawgs, and we will get a little preview of what the 2024 Georgia football team looks like.

So that is exciting to see. Plus, the extra practice helps the younger players develop, and it helps the early enrollees get their feet wet at Georgia. So, there is one positive to make yourself feel a little better.

The next reason why this game is important is recruiting. Florida State is a program on the rise, and when the Noles have been a great program, they have historically always recruited South Georgia well. If the Dawgs go out there and win convincingly, it could change some kids’ minds on the fence between Georgia and FSU.

This game is more of a measuring stick for the Noles to see where their program is. But will they want to show up and play? This reminds me of Georgia in 2018 when the Dawgs should have gotten into the playoff but got hosed by the committee.

Georgia entered the Sugar Bowl and played uninspired because they thought they deserved a playoff spot. They lost to Texas that night when over half the roster sat out. Florida State could be in a similar spot as Georgia in 2018.

We will see how many guys opt out of this game. Before you get on your high horses, whatever a player decides is his choice, and we should congratulate him going into his next chapter of life.

So, I do not want anybody reading this site going to Brock Bowers’s Twitter and yelling at him on social media for not playing a meaningless exhibition game. Kendall Milton said that he is going to play. Milton said he does not want to abandon his brothers. So, who knows how many guys on the team will take that stance?

This will be the third time Georgia plays in the Orange Bowl and the second time Georgia and Florida State square off in a New Year 6 Bowl.
