Georgia Football: Trying to make sense of CFP decision to put Dawgs #6

Georgia football is out of the College Football Playoffs despite losing one game by three points in the SEC Championship. I will articulate my anger with the CFP committee and the rest of the college football media. I will do so without name-calling or cursing. Both of which I have done in the privacy of my garage.

So, let’s start with some basic logic. The number one team in the country on Friday was 12-0, and playing the #8 team on Saturday. The said the #1 team in the country lost by 3 points to the number 8 team, but does it drop to number 6?

Also, the #8 team jumps to #4 after beating the #1 team by 3 points. How does that make any sense? Also, for context, said number one team was number one for almost all of the regular season; it was not the number one team in the country for only a week. Now that team is not one of the four best teams in the country or, better yet, not deserving? How does that work?

Georgia has been considered the best team in the country all year for the most part. Now, because they lost a game by 3 points to the #8 team in the country, are they not deserving? Does the regular season not mean anything? Does beating 3 of the top 25 teams in the country by a combined 64 points not count?

Here is another flaw in the Georgia should not be in the playoffs argument. Many said before selection Sunday that Alabama nor Georgia should get in because Texas beat Alabama in September. The Texas and Alabama head-to-head topic is settled with both getting into the playoffs; I just want to freeze the Georgia part of this equation.

GEORGIA NEVER PLAYED TEXAS! The transitive property does not exist in college football. It is made up, it is fake, it is imaginary. If Texas and Georgia did not play, how can Texas get in over Georgia? Texas has a worse loss to Oklahoma! They have had multiple close calls. Also, beating up on the 116th-ranked defense in the Big 12 title game is not that great, especially if you watched what was going on the field.

Florida State did not get into the playoffs just because it went undefeated. The Noles do not pass the eye test, nor is their resume all that great. The only big win they have is over an okay LSU team.

An LSU team that lost to Ole Miss, that Georgia and Alabama beat. But they also lost to Alabama. FSU also struggled with teams that were quite frankly terrible. So why would FSU be ranked ahead of Georgia when they struggled more all season?

I know many people out there suffer from Georgia fatigue, and many suffer from SEC fatigue. I get it, but also, at the same time, they are one of the best programs in college football right now.

Because of the committee’s inept decisions today, Georgia probably plays Flordia State in the Orange Bowl. It’s a Florida State team that feels like it gets hosed and probably a Georgia team that feels the same way, but also a team with many starters out resting for the NFL.

I finally realize how difficult of a task getting three in a row is. Georgia was that close to making history. Losing to Alabama sucks and will bother me all off-season. But, if you told me Georgia was back-to-back national champions and played in two Orange Bowls and a Peach Bowl in 2 years, I would take it.
