Georgia football loses its backup quarterback, Brock Vandagriff.
Vandagriff was a massive recruit in the 2020 cycle. Vandagriff went to Prince Christian School, right down the road from the Georgia campus in Athens. Vandagriff was a 4-star coming out of high school, the 5th quarterback in the country, and the 5th player overall in Georgia.
Vandagriff has been at Georgia for three years and played clean-up duty in 2022 and 2023. Vandagriff is rumored to go to Kentucky or Auburn. Many believe Kentucky is the clubhouse leader on social media if you put any stock in that sort of thing. But there are also a ton of other schools that would take Vandagriff.
Oregon would be a great landing spot for Vandagriff because of the Dan Lanning connection, and he would replace Bo Nix. Also, USC could be in on Vandagriff. During the 2020 recruiting cycle, Lincoln Riley and Oklahoma were the leaders in his recruiting. It would not be shocking if Riley came around again and talked to Vandagriff as the replacement for Caleb Williams.
I do not think this caught Georgia fans by surprise, and in fact, this could be celebrated news because this could mean Carson Beck is back for the Dawgs. The news of Vandagriff’s departure definitely signals that Beck is coming back.
Why would Vandagriff leave if Beck was going to the NFL? Vandagriff would be missing a chance to be the starter for one of the top teams in the country. With Raiola coming this offseason and Beck staying, it would only make sense if Vandagriff left to find another play opportunity.
It will be interesting to see what Georgia does in the portal, with a few guys already announcing that they are going into it. However, Vandagriff seems to be the first name of significance for the Dawgs.
