Georgia football loses Mekhi Mews to the transfer portal. Mews played in all 13 games for the Dawgs this season. Mews, a wide receiver for the Dawgs, caught 13 passes for 155 yards. But Mews was known for his special teams to play as a kick and punt returner. Mews also had a punt return touchdown this season.

Mews was a walk-on at the start of his career, and I found nothing when trying to find out if he was on scholarship. So, it is not known if Mews is on scholarship or not. Mews will have two years of eligibility wherever he decides to go.

This brings depth questions for the Dawgs at the wideout positions. The Dawgs will have some returning wideouts, but they are also expected to be active in the portal again, with Julian Fleming (Ohio State) and London Humphreys (Vanderbilt) all to be rumored to have Georgia as a potential landing spot.

This is the 10th player to hit the transfer portal for the Dawgs. None of this shocked Kirby Smart, as he knew after the loss in the SEC Championship that some players would leave and hit the portal. This timing slightly differs from the past two years, as the Dawgs were in the CFP National Championship. Also, the portal opened on Monday and will close on January 2.

This one stings more than any player that has hit the portal. So far, many players who have hit the portal have had very limited playing time and are looking for places to get more playing time. But Mews played a ton, and if you are a frequent reader of Dawn of the Dawg, Mews was one of my favorites. Mews won player of the game a few times on the weekly report cards this year.

Wherever Mews goes, he will certainly make an impact like he did with the Dawgs.
