Brock Bowers, tight end for Georgia football, wins the John Mackey Award. The Mackey Award is given to the best college football tight end annually. Bowers also makes history by being the first two-time winner of the Mackey Award, which has been given out since 2000.

Bowers should have been a three-time winner but was not even a finalist in 2021 Bowers freshman year. It’s not like I am bitter still about that snub. But oblivious, Bowers has been the best tight end in the country since he started playing for the Dawgs in 2021. Many could argue that Bowers is the greatest Georgia Bulldog ever to wear the red & black, but the jury is still out on that.

Bowers won the award even though he missed three weeks with an ankle injury. Bowers is the statistic leader in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns for the Dawgs. In ten games played, Bowers caught 56 passes for 714 yards and six touchdowns. Bowers has been the number-one receiver statistically for the Dawgs in all three seasons.

It is still unknown if Bowers will forgo his senior season and go to the NFL draft, where, more than likely, he will be a first-round pick. It is also unclear if Bowers will even play in the Orange Bowl against FSU.

This has led Georgia fans to talk about whether he should or should not play and has even led some to hope Bowers pulls a Nick Chubb and returns for one more year. I would love for that to happen, but we all know it is not. I will gladly eat crow if it does.

What Bowers has done in his three seasons at Georgia is unremarkable. Bowers has completely redefined the tight-end position in college football. As a fan of Georgia, what he does for the Dawgs has been nothing short of amazing. But while we can talk about how great of a player he is, we should all be thankful for how much he cares about Georgia.

Bowers risked a lot to play for Georgia this season, especially after the tightrope surgery on his ankle. He did his best while limping around Mercedes-Benz Stadium during the SEC Championship. The amazing plays and the unbelievable stats that Bowers has put up will not stick in my mind when I think back to this period of Georgia football. I will remember his effort and how much he cared about the University of Georgia. We should all remember that.

Brock Bowers is just not the best tight end in college football. Brock Bowers is the definition of a  Damn Good Dawg!
