Georgia football fans know that Gunner Stockton has a lot to prove this season, but UGA fans also know that he has the potential to be a special player who can lead the Bulldogs to a lot of success. However, not everyone has as much faith in Stockton as the Georgia fanbase does.
247Sports analyst Bud Elliot posted the below video on social media where he admits Georgia deserves to be a preseason favorite in the SEC, but he believes Stockton isn't good enough to actually lead Georgia to a championship.
"If everyone is playing essentially at their ceiling, the team that wins the SEC is porbably going to have a quarterback who hits his ceiling. For the sake of argument let's say that Gunner Stockton hits his ceiling. I think anybody who has watched Gunner Stockton knows that he has a relatively limited ceiling."
Is Georgia a justified preseason SEC favorite? Yes. Sure.

But should they be a postseason SEC favorite? pic.twitter.com/uPYoZfNJnS
Gunner Stockton's being crucified for CFP loss to Notre Dame
Stockton only has one start under his belt at Georgia, and that came in their College Football Playoff loss to Notre Dame. Stockton showed signs of promise during that game, but he was nowhere near good enough to help lead Georgia to victory.
This loss is what the college football world points to when they claim Stockton isn't good enough to lead Georgia to an SEC Championship and potential run in the CFP. But that isn't totally fair to him because what QB would do well when their first collegiate start is on the biggest stage the sport has to offer?
Elliot didn't stop there though as he continued to berate Stockton while propping up many other SEC teams and their quarterbacks.
"Georgia might project as the best team right now, but I think ultimately the odds are that one of those quarterbacks that I listed really hits their ceiling and they come out on top and maybe knock Georgia who has a more limited player."
College football analysts are giving up on Stockton too fast
Elliot listed Texas's Arch Manning, Florida's DJ Lagway and LSU's Garrett Nussmeier who have enough potential to lead their teams to an SEC title, something he doesn't think Stockton can do. Elliot even mentioned Alabama QB Ty Simpson who is yet to start a game in college as having more potential than Stockton.
So it seems Elliot only needs to see one game before he can make his final judgement on a player, which hardly seems like enough data a college football "analyst" should use before completely writing someone off.
The one thing that Elliot failed to mention that is on Georgia's side is the rest of their team. The Bulldogs will once again have one of the best defenses in the country with a large supply of weapons at Stockton's disposal on offense. Kirby Smart is also still roaming the Georgia sideline as well, so surely the best coach in college football right now deserves some recognition.
So even if Stockton's potential is in fact less than these other SEC quarterbacks, the rest of Georgia's team could help make up the difference in their pursuit of repeating as SEC Champions.
