Georgia football has been very spoiled over the years when it comes to the quarterback position. This isn't a position that UGA usually dominates on the recruiting trail, but they always seem to have a great quarterback under center leading the way for the Bulldogs.
That is why it was not surprising to see three Georgia quarterbacks listed in ESPN's top 90 QBs of this century.
Trio of Georgia QBs make ESPNs top 90
To likely no one's surprise, the first quarterback listed from Georgia is Stetson Bennett, who came in as the No. 42 QB on this list. Every Georgia fan will tell you that there are many other QBs better than Bennett, but no one would ever trade Bennett for any of them. So Bennett coming in right in the middle of the pack makes a lot of sense, especially considering he led Georgia to two National Championships including an undefeated 15-0 season.
Next up for Georgia is Aaron Murray, who isn't too far behind Bennett at No. 48. While Murray doesn't have the championships on his resume like Bennett, he may be a better technical quarterback than Bennett. The best example to prove this is the fact that Murray still holds the SEC career passing yards record with 13,166 total passing yards.
Last but not least is David Greene, who came in at No. 76. Greene played for the Bulldogs from 2001-2004 and isn't too far behind Murray in total passing yards as he finished his career with just over 11,000.
There does appear to be one Georgia QB missing from this list as Matthew Stafford was nowhere to be found. Stafford didn't have the team accomplishments like some of these other quarterbacks, but he was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. So it is a little strange that a No. 1 pick didn't even crack the top 90 QBs this century.
Regardless, this list shows just how good Georgia has had it over the years, but now the hope is that the Bulldogs will have a QB come in that can challenge the top of the list instead of falling in the middle of the pack or end of the list.
