What does Georgia need to do have a great season this year? There clearly are a lot of things that have to go right for UGA to accomplish their goals this season, but there are a few that stand out above the rest.

So here are three of the most important keys for Georgia heading into the 2025 season.

Make life easy for Gunner Stockton

Gunner Stockton was thrown into an impossible situation last year when he took over for Carson Beck. Georgia couldn’t afford to make things simple for him since he played in the biggest moments of the season in the SEC Championship game and College Football Playoff, and that made life very challenging for him.

This year however will be different for Stockton. He and Georgia thankfully have two easy opponents on their schedule to start the year, so this is the perfect thing Stockton will need to ease his way into the season.

Georgia’s staff should do everything they can throughout this season, especially in the first few games, to make life as easy as possible for Stockton. This includes relying on a hopefully effective run game and calling simple pass plays to help Stockton get more comfortable.

Once Stockton is comfortable then Georgia will be able to open up the playbook for him and that’s when everyone will learn just how special of a player he is.

Establish the run

As mentioned, one way to help Stockton this season is by having an efficient run game. That is something that was missing last season, but if Georgia is going to have a good year they need a dominant run game they can rely on.

Thankfully Georgia has ample running backs at their disposal this year that they can use to their advantage. This includes starting running back Nate Frazier who will be one of the top backs in the country. Georgia also has transfer Josh McCray who is ready to make an impact as well as Roderick Robinson and freshman Chauncey Bowens.

The tools are there for Georgia to have an effective run game, so it’s just a matter of putting it all together and staying healthy.

Find new playmakers on the defensive line

Georgia’s defensive line has some big holes to fill this season. Mykel Williams and Jalon Walker dominated the trenches last season, but with their departures to the NFL Georiga has to find a way to fill their void.

Christen Miller is projected to be an early round draft pick next year, so he will be key for Georgia in replacing those two. True freshman Elijah Griffin has also been making a lot of waves this offseason as well.

At the end of the day though it doesn’t matter who breaks through on the defensive line as long as a few players do, because Georgia is always at their best when their defensive front is dominating games.
