The beginning of Georgia football's season is almost here, and now is the time for everyone to set their final expectations for the season ahead. Most Georgia fans will expect UGA to compete for and win championships again this season, but that is obviously easier said then done.
So who needs to be at their best this year if Georgia is going to win championships? These three players are potentially the most important for Georgia this season if UGA is going to accomplish their goals this year.
QB Gunner Stockton
It goes without saying that quarterback Gunner Stockton is the most important player for Georgia this season. No team can win championships with poor quarterback play, so the emergence of Stockton this season is as important as anything else if Georgia is going to accomplish their goals.
Stockton as a leader off the field is just as important as his play on the field as well. Last year when he took over for an injured Carson Beck, the entire team was raving about how great of a leader he was. Can he keep that up this season now that he is the starting quarterback?
If he does then that will make everyone else around him much better which is exactly what this team needs.
RB Nate Frazier
Knowing that Stockton is the most important player for Georgia this season, it's easy to point to starting running back Nate Frazier as another guy who is just as important. Stockton likely will struggle at times throughout this season, especially early in the year, so one thing that can help him a lot is a steady run game.
Frazier proved last season that he is an elite running back, so him continuing his dominance this season is critical so he can help Stockton as much as he can. An elite run game will only make Stockton's life easier in the pass game, so establishing the run this season behind Frazier likely means that Stockton will perform a lot better as well.
DL Christen Miller
The defense has to be great for Georgia this season as well if they are going to accomplish their goals, and UGA's success on defense always begins up front. Defensive lineman Christen Miller is the veteran of this group as he projects to be the top player on Georgia's defensive line, and he is going to have to be special this season if Georgia wants to have a good year.
Georgia's defensive line depth isn't great this season, so Miller has to show that he is one of the best lineman in the country with his play. He needs to be a constant wrecking ball in the backfield that can impact every single play he is on the field.
A dominant season from Miller likely will mean a solid season from everyone else on defense, so Miller has to be the guy to set the tone for Georgia's defense this season.
