Georgia football is getting ready for their annual date with Georgia Tech. This game is very important every single season, but this year it feels even more important than normal for Georgia.
There are probably a hundred reasons we could come up with for why that is the case, but these three reasons are the most important by far.
1. College Football Playoff Hopes
It may kind of feel like Georgia has clinched their spot in the College Football Playoff already this season, but that couldn't be further from the truth.
Georgia already has two losses this season, so losing against Georgia Tech or in the SEC Championship game could kick Georgia out of the CFP picture. Many think that a loss in the SEC title game won't keep Georgia out of the CFP, but that's only if the Bulldogs beat Georgia Tech. So a win on Friday night could very well clinch Georgia's spot in this year's playoff.
Yes Georgia can still make the CFP if they lose to Georgia Tech, but again that would only happen if they win the SEC Championship. It's probably safe to say that nobody wants that added pressure on the championship game.
So beating Georgia Tech puts UGA in the best position possible to make the College Football Playoff and doesn't add any more pressure to a game that already have loads of it.
