Georgia basketball officially has their season underway as they hit the road to take on Charlotte in an exhibition game. The Bulldogs rolled in an 86-59 win which is expected in a game like this, but there were a lot of things to love from this game to help get excited for the season ahead.

Here are my three biggest takeaways that I saw from Georgia's dominant win against Charlotte.

1. Freshman Asa Newell has star potential

The hype surrounding incoming freshman Asa Newell is extremely high. How could it not be for the program’s fourth five-star recruit in program history?

You never know how an extremely talented freshman will adjust when they get to college. Some players are very good from the jump while others take some time to get used to the college game.

And so far it looks like Newell is adjusting just fine.

In the Bulldogs’ game against Charlotte, Newell finished with a team high 20 points. Now I know this is just an exhibition game and we’ll have to see how he does against some better competition, but so far Newell has shown us exactly what we’ve wanted to see.

I would be causious and not expect Newell to score 20 points that regularly once the regular season gets going. But the fact that we know he can do that is a very encouraging sign for someone so early in their college career.
