Georgia football survived against rival Florida 34-20 in a game that was a lot closer than the final score indicates. The Gators had a chance to take the lead late in the game, but a bad snap on a field goal and another interception helped Georgia put the game out of reach.
Winning will always be the most important thing, but this win does not feel nearly as good as others in the past. There are a lot of takeaways from this game for Kirby Smart and Georgia to learn from, but here are the three biggest takeaways that we saw.
1. Carson Beck's struggles continue
The hope for Carson Beck heading into this game after being on a bye week is that he would have been much improved with his decision making and turnover problems. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
Beck finished the game completing 25 of 40 passes for 309 yards and two touchdows. But he also threw three interceptions for the second game in a row.
Two of those interceptions (the two in the first half) were very discouraging to see. Not only did Beck telegraph exactly where he was going to throw the ball on these interceptions, but he through it into double and triple coverage. That is a recipe for disaster.
Beck needs to learn that sometimes it's okay to just throw the ball away. Sometimes it's fine to tuck the ball and pick up a couple yards on the ground. Even though those aren't exciting plays, it is a lot better than turning the ball over.
Something has to change with Beck. The way he is currently playing isn't good enough for Georgia to win a national championship. So if UGA is going to accomplish their goals, it starts with him.
