Georgia football held their second scrimmage of the spring on Saturday, and this scrimmage was much better than the first. There are countless takeaways to discuss from this scrimmage, so let's jump right in as there were three key things that stood out the most.

Gunner Stockton continues to shine

Georgia will be in the middle of a quarterback competition for most of the offseason, but every passing day shows why many think Gunner Stockton will win the job. Not only has the team and Kirby Smart had a lot of positive things to say about him, but he is living up to the expectations on the field as well.

Stockton was one of the best performers during Georgia's second scrimmage on Saturday, and in doing so he created more distance between himself and Ryan Puglisi. This competition is far from over, but at this point it would be shocking if Stockton was not the starter for the first game of the regular season this fall.

Wide receiver room is living up to the hype

Georgia's wide receiver room was not strong during the 2024 season, no UGA fan needs to be reminded of that, but this year's group is showing signs of being much improved.

From incoming transfers Zachariah Branch and Noah Thomas to the returning Bulldogs like Dillon Bell, there is a lot of reasons to be hopeful. Even many of the true freshman wideouts, including five-star Talyn Taylor, are delivering so far. So as it stands today, there is a very real chance that Georgia's wide receivers go from one of the worst groups on the team last year to one of the strongest this coming season.

Hello Elijah Griffin

Every season Georgia has a few true freshman that come in and contribute like they are veteran players. It is very difficult to know who those freshman will be before the season begins, but defensive lineman Elijah Griffin is looking like a likely candidate.

Griffin was the top ranked commit for Georgia in the 2025 class as he was the No. 3 player in the country and top ranked defensive lineman, so the expectation was for him to come in and compete for playing time right away. And so far he has done just that, and Saturday's scrimmage was just another example of what he will being to the field this fall in Athens. So don't be surprised if he turns into a starter later this year.
