3 transfer WRs Georgia could still land after missing out on Jaylen Mbakwe to a rival

There are still plenty of transfer portal wide receivers for Georgia to sign after missing out here.

Not everyone can play for your favorite college football team. While there was some hope that former Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver Jaylen Mbakwe could be making his way to Athens, he opted to go play for the Georgia Bulldogs' big in-state rival down in Atlanta. Yes, the former five-star recruit out of high school is now going to suit up for Brent Key's Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets upon committing.

On3's Hayes Fawcett loves the fit for Mbakwe at Georgia Tech, playing for Key and George Godsey.

Besides missing out on a target Georgia may have wanted in the portal, Mbakwe now goes to the Dawgs' Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate nemesis. That being said, there are still plenty of fish in the sea, as well as so many wide receivers to choose from in the transfer portal. This is a position group Georgia needs to attack ferociously with possibly four or so wide receivers from this year's team turning pro.

Without further ado, here are three wide receivers Georgia may like to have more than even Mbakwe.

3. Auburn Tigers wide receiver Cam Coleman

It may be a bit of a pipe dream, but why not shoot for the moon if you are Georgia? The best wide receiver currently in the transfer portal is Cam Coleman. The former Auburn standout entered the portal not long after Alex Golesh was named the Tigers' next head coach. Coleman was a five-star recruit coming out of high school back in 2024 out of Phenix City. He is a five-star in the portal, too.

Right now, it seems as though teams like Alabama and Texas A&M are among the more likely favorites to get him. While he may very well end up staying in-state, Alabama's offense has become too one-dimensional under Kalen DeBoer's watch. Texas A&M will have to counterbalance after losing Collin Klein to the Kansas State vacancy. Georgia has been a big player in the transfer market at receiver.

Admittedly, it still seems like a total long shot for Coleman to play for rival Georgia, but it is possible.

2. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets wide receiver Isiah Canion

Former Georgia Tech wide receiver Isiah Canion could be a fantastic pickup in the portal for Georgia. Not only would the Dawgs be getting one of the most talented players off the Jackets, but he would get to stay close to home if he flipped Peach State allegiances. Canion is the No. 6 wide receiver in the portal and the No. 22 overall prospect in this cycle. Will the Warner Robins native stay home?

The big key to watch here is if Canion follows his former offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner to Florida. The heir apparent to Haynes King under center in Aaron Philo sure did. Because Warner Robins is centrally located in the state, Canion would not be super far away at Florida. Regardless, the Dawgs do not want to see him commit to another rival team in the same manner that Mbakwe just did.

At this point in time, it might be a 50-50 proposition on if Canion were to commit to Georgia or Florida.

1. Kansas State Wildcats wide receiver Jayce Brown

Although he may not be as great of a transfer portal prospect as either Cam Coleman or Isiah Canion, Jayce Brown might be easier to get for Georgia than the rest. The former Kansas State Wildcats star is leaving Manhattan in the wake of Chris Klieman retiring and Collin Klein coming back to his alma mater from Texas A&M. Brown grew up in the Florida panhandle, as he hails from Fort Walton Beach.

At this stage of the game, Brown is the No. 19 wide receiver in this transfer portal class and the No. 69 overall prospect. He spent the last three seasons over at Kansas State. While he has had talented quarterbacks throwing him the ball in Will Howard and Avery Johnson, neither can hold a candle to what Georgia has in Gunner Stockton. He would be quite the pickup for UGA if he were to come here.

In all honesty, Georgia is going to want to sign at least two high-end wide receivers in the portal, too.

When does the transfer portal close?

The transfer portal opened on Friday, Jan. 2. It will be open for two weeks, meaning it will close on Friday, Jan. 16. The only exception to this rule would be for the two teams playing in this year's national championship. They will get a five-day extension, which would run from Tuesday, Jan. 20 through Saturday, Jan. 24. Keep in mind that there will not be a spring transfer portal window either.
