Georgia football is gearing up for their College Football Playoff run, and there is a lot of work for Kirby Smart and the entire team to do to get ready for their quarterfinal matchup on Jan. 1.
But while we wait for Georgia's first game, there are a few former Bulldogs who have made the CFP with their new teams that will be playing in this weekend's first round games. Let's take a quick look at who those players are and how they did for their team.
Former Bulldogs in the College Football Playoff
Penn State DB - A.J. Harris
Penn State DB - Jalen Kimber
Texas DL - Bill Norton
SMU DL - Jonathan Jefferson
Georgia won't have the chance to play a former Bulldog in their quarterfinal matchup on Jan. 1, but there is a chance they could if they make the semifinals. Penn State is one opponent Georgia could play in the semifinals, and their pair of starting corners used to part of Georgia's program.
A.J. Harris had a very good season with Penn State after leaving Georgia last season. This year he recorded 39 tackles, one interception and four pass deflections. Fellow starting cornerJalen Kimber also had a great season as well. After spending two seasons at Georgia from 2020-21, Kimber transferred to Florida and then to Penn State for this year. Kimber recorded 26 tackles this season as well as two pass deflections for the Nittany Lions.
UGA would face these two in the semifinals if both teams make it that far, but Georgia also could play SMU defensive lineman Jonathan Jefferson in the semifinals as well. Jefferson hasn't been as active with SMU this season, but he has recorded 14 tackles which is a career high for him.
Lastly is Texas defensive lineman Bill Norton, who played at Georgia from 2019-2022. Norton has recorded 11 tackles this year with the Longhorns in his first season with Texas. It is unlikely that Georgia will play Norton again as both UGA and Texas would have to make the National Championship game, but the Bulldogs have already proven they are better than Texas so it may be in their best interest to not have to play the Longhorns for a third time this season.
