Georgia football’s week one game against Marshall gives the Bulldogs a new opportunity to pick up some more recruiting momentum. Recruiting takes a back seat for every program in the country once fall camp begins, but the start of the season is when every program starts making some big waves on the recruiting trail again.

Like every other school in the country, Georgia uses their game days in Athens as an opportunity to bring in top recruits and continue to push forward in their recruitment. A few Georgia commits have already announced their plans of making the trip to Athens this weekend, but one important uncommitted visitor has announced that he will be making the trip to Georgia this weekend.

4-star OT plans to visit Georgia for week one showdown

Four-star offensive tackle Joshua Sam-Epelle announced on Monday that he will be in Athens for Georgia’s first game of the season against Marshall.

Sam-Epelle is a member of the 2027 recruiting class, so his recruitment has a lot of time left in it still. But it’s clear that he is someone Kirby Smart and his staff want badly.

According to 247Sports, Sam-Epelle is the No. 69 overall player in the country. He also is the No. 7 offensive tackle in the 2027 class and the No. 9 player from the Peach State. Considering Sam-Epelle is this highly ranked and from the state of Georgia, it’s clear why this visit is key for UGA this weekend. However, SEC rival South Carolina is the team currently trending for Sam-Epelle, so this will be Georgia’s best opportunity to catch up to the Gamecocks in this recruitment.

The fact that Sam-Epelle is choosing to visit Georgia instead of South Carolina for the first game of the season is a big deal. This could be a sign that Georgia isn’t far behind the Gamecocks at all in his recruitment like 247Sports suggests, so be sure to pay close attention to this visit, because there’s a chance Georgia could be the new leader if this visit goes extremely well.
