4 things we want to see on offense from Georgia next season

Georgia football needs to get back to what they did well in year's past on offense.

Georgia football's offense was not great this season. The Bulldogs had to rely on their defense many times this season to keep them in games, and the games when Georgia's defense struggled happened to be the ones that Georgia lost because their offense was unable to pick up the slack.

Some might argue that the offenses struggles were caused from a decrease in talent across the board. While that may be partially true, there are a lot of things that Kirby Smart and his staff could have done differently to put their players in a better position.

So here are four things that Georgia needs to do more of next season on offense.

1. More action for running backs

Georgia got away from their running backs this season. Not only did UGA not run the ball as much as they have in year's past, but they did not get the running backs involved in the pass game as much either.

It doesn't need to be crazy concepts for the running backs to get involved in the pass game either. Screens, wheel routes or even putting the running backs out wide is a great way to spice the offense up and keep defenses guessing. So hopefully Georgia does more of that next season.

2. Counter plays and misdirection

There is nothing better than running plays that result in the defense being on the complete wrong side of the field. Whether that is with a counter play or a play with some more trickeration and misdirection, Georgia needs to do more of that next season.

These concepts are tough because they have to be called in the perfect moments. We've all seen moments when these plays are called and they end up going for big losses. But if Georgia can time these play calls out, they could lead to some big plays and confusing opposing defenses even more.

3. Emphasis on tight end usage

One of the hardest things for any defense to defend is a tight end that gets used a lot. Not only does this create a lot more opportunities for players elsewhere on the field, but sometimes calling plays for tight ends specifically creates easy gains for first downs.

The tight end screen is a play that doesn't get called enough that can be very effective. But even running plays to get tight ends open in the middle of the field can be an easy way to pick up chunks of yards. So this is something that UGA has to make more of an effort to do next year, and is something that will end up helping the entire offense.

4. Moving the pocket more

This final point is especially important if Gunner Stockton is the QB for Georgia next season. Stockton is at his best when he is active and on the move, so calling more plays that allows Stockton to roll outside of the pocket would fit his game well.

This also will keep defenses on their toes as certain plays can be called that give Stockton, or whoever the QB is, an option to run the ball as well. So getting Georgia's QB out in space more where they can be an athlete would be ideal next season.
